Biography -

Neil Robinson originally hails from Vancouver, Canada but has called Amsterdam home for the past year. After living, working and backpacking around Asia for almost two years, Neil continued his travels through Europe before coming to Amsterdam for what was supposed to be a relaxing summer in the land of clogs, cheese, and tulips. He quickly realized, though, that this was a place he could call home for a lot longer.
With a degree in psychology, he has always been fascinated with human behavior and why people do the things they do. The “Streetprov” concept was an idea that was brewing in his head for a while and would likely have stayed there had his partner, Miguel, not revealed that he, too, had similar aspirations for street theater. After realizing that they had everything in place in terms of performers, audience members, locations, cameras, ideas and the ol’ ‘can-do’ attitude, everything was set to launch the first Streetprov production in February. Streetprov has been putting on one production per month since.

When not planning and executing Streetprov scenes, Neil can often be found at the local comedy club, either at Boom Chicago’s terrace with a beer in hand or in the nearby Comedy Cafe with a microphone in hand. Always looking for a laugh, he has found the lonely stage of comedy clubs fits his style best. Neil was a finalist in the stand-up comedy competition, “Sonnema Comedy Tour” and has toured throughout the Netherlands. He has found that the Dutch love to laugh at themselves and some of the interesting traditions this country love to celebrate. It’s these observations, and others, that keep Neil laughing and others laughing at Neil.

He can also often be found giving boat tours with the St. Nicholaas Boat Club, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving historic boats and giving people a very unique view of Amsterdam. One of Neil’s favorite past-times is slowing putting through the beautiful canals on a sunny day, sharing his love for the city with others.

Neil is excited for the future of Streetprov here in Amsterdam and beyond! Keep an eye out for more of this unique street theater because you never know when the improvolution is going to hit your neighborhood!
